School of Technology

The School of Technology of the Beijing Forestry University was founded in 1958. It was formerly the Department of Forest Industry of the Beijing Forestry College at the time of its establishment until it was renamed the College of Forest Industry in 1993. The current name has been in use since 2001. The school of engineering is a teaching and research school, and its mission is to train high-level engineering and technology talents. The motto of the school is "Promoting virtue, pursuing craftsman's spirit, seeking truth, studying diligently.” We have been striving for excellence in every aspect of the school’s development since its establishment, and great achievements have been made in student development, scientific research, social services, science and technology innovation, international exchange and cooperation, all while carrying forward fine traditional culture.

The school has 4 undergraduate majors: Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Vehicle Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation. There are 6 second-level disciplines offering Master of Science degree: Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Forest Engineering, Forestry Electrification and Automation. There are 2 disciplines offering full-time Master of Engineering degrees: Mechanical Engineering and Control Engineering. The school provides 3 disciplines offering doctoral degrees including Mechanical Engineering, Forest Engineering, as well as Forestry Electrification and Automation. Finally, there is also 1 postdoctoral mobile station in forestry engineering, among which the mechanical design, manufacturing, and automation are national specialty construction majors. Forest engineering is the key discipline of Beijing and the key discipline of the National Forestry and Grassland Bureau.

As of July 2018, the School of Technology has 93 faculties including 18 professors, 35 associate professors, and 16 lecturers. Of which, our staff boasts 1 member of the State Council Discipline Evaluation Group, 1 recipient of Special Government Allowances of the State Council, 1 Baosteel Outstanding Teacher, 1 Beijing Famous Teacher, 2 Beijing Outstanding Teachers, and 1 awardee of the New Century Excellent Talent of the Ministry of Education. Many of our staff have been actively serving as Deputy Director or higher within academic organizations worldwide. Our employees have won various prizes in multiple levels including the first-place prize for the National and Beijing Teaching Contest, the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award, the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Award, as well as the Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Award. The school has enrolled 1257 full-time undergraduate students and 276 graduate students, among which 53 are doctoral students. Great achievements have been made by our students in both provincial and national level college innovation and entrepreneurship contests.

The School of Technology has several teaching and research platforms and laborites: the Key Laboratory of Forestry Equipment and Automation of the National Forestry and Grassland Bureau, the Beijing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Forestry Engineering Equipment and Technology, the Forestry and Environmental Special Equipment Research Institute, and the International Joint Research Institute for Wood Nondestructive Testing. In the past ten years, the school has been funded by more than 400 scientific research projects with a total research funding of 75 million yuan. Further, faculties from the school have won the Beijing and the Liangxi Forestry Science and Technology Awards 5 times, published more than 300 SCI and EI collected papers, and more than 100 invention patents.

The School of Technology will continue carrying out the Party's education policy, adhering to the socialist-oriented education, enhancing the advantages and characteristics of our majors and disciplines. This will be done by following the developing strategies allowing our engineering school to provide the highest teaching quality, producing state of art scientific research, attracting and keeping talents, and bringing out the full potential for development of higher education. In the meantime, the school should envision innovating the electromechanical technology, train elite talents for industries, serve the forestry (ecological) industry in the long-term to continuously improve the quality of teaching and research, further develop the management and operation mechanism, expand social services, and endeavor to construct a high-level engineering school with outstanding advantages and distinctive characteristics.
